Choosing the right pre-school for your child can prove to be a very difficult task. The feeling of leaving your lil one alone in a new place for hours on a stretch is no less than a mini heart attack. So today, I’ll be answering the most commonly asked questions by moms. How did you start weaning? What food do give to Shiv? When did you start solid food? Etc etc .
So, Shiv was exclusively breastfed for 6 months. I never gave him top feed or any other source of nutrition before that. Many people start with Dal ka pani and water at around 4 months. But I do not recommend this. Breastmilk has all the required nutrients for a baby until 6 months.
See, I listen to my paediatrician and do everything according to him, and this has worked really well for me. ‘Doctor to yuheen kehte hain’ is the most commonly heard phrase from our relatives. But our doctors have studied for 10 long years guys. They know better than any of our family members or acquaintances . Why will the doctors advise something that’s not important? Think about it!
Anyways! Let’s begin with how I started weaning?
I started weaning at 6 months exactly. The first meal I gave Shiv was 2 spoons of coconut water. He got so excited after the first sip. I guess it happens with everyone.
How to begin?
Begin with 3 meals daily, 1/4th katori (bowl).
First Meal(Liquid)- Dal ka pani, Vegetable Soup, coconut water
Third meal(Solid food)- khichdi, Daliya, Sooji kheer, Oatmeal, sooji halwa. Use breastmilk for cooking if needed.
Sips of water throughout day.
Increase the quantity to 1/2 katori after 15 days and add another solid meal
1 solid + 1 liquid + 1 fruit purée + 1 solid
Increase the quantity to 1 katori after next 15 days and add one more solid.
1 solid + 1 liquid + 1 solid + 1 fruit + 1 solid
After Shiv turned 7 months old, I started putting vegetables to his solid meals. Pumpkin, bottle gourd, carrots, beans, broccoli were my favourites. Avoid giving tomatoes initially. Also, I started with Paneer blended with Dal or vegetables, Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes at around 8 months.
Keep increasing the consistency of the food slowly. You may also use Amul full cream milk after 8 months for cooking food. No cows milk please. It contains high amount of proteins which are difficult to digest. Also, it lacks the right amount of iron required by the baby.
Things to avoid till 1 year
My baby doesn’t eat. What to do? Should I add salt or sugar to his/her food for flavour?
Well! This is again a very frequently asked question.
Weaning is very important, and it’s on us how we deal with it. Our babies will put us into a difficult situation for sure. That’s completely normal. That doesn’t mean that they need flavour. Let me make it very clear that OUR BABIES KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FLAVOUR INITIALLY. We will have to work hard and keep trying. Try to distract the baby with stories, toys, lights, flowers, shoes…anything. Let them watch television guys if that helps them eat. It’s just a matter of 10 minutes. I remember I used to take Shiv to the garden, or the temple in our house, or my mom in law used to talk while I spoon fed him. So there are many many ways. Never give up. Keep trying hard. Search for new ways and never panic.
Most importantly, always think positive. Thoughts like ‘Offo she won’t eat now’ , ‘Why isn’t she eating?’, ‘It is very difficult to make her eat’ are negative thoughts. Instead think that ‘My kid is a good girl’, ‘She will eat properly’, ‘She will love what I have cooked today’ are some positive thoughts that should always be there in your mind.
Things to remember:
1. Try using a high chair so that the baby can learn to sit and eat properly.
2. Never force feed the baby. Always remember that babies would never starve themselves.

Pregnancy was a wonderful experience for me. There were plenty of beauty bonuses that helped me look and feel great. One of them was a Fabulous head of hair. Thanks to those pregnancy hormones. But what happens to those thick and lustrous hair after 3 months post delivery? Oh god, it’s super stressful. Isn’t it?
Today, I will be talking about My Post Delivery Hair Care routine. I was very happy with my hair till 3 months after Shiv was born. But then I was shocked to see my hair falling out. It felt as if I would go bald in a few days. This happened for 1 month daily. I felt so worried throughout and one day my mom suggested me to try hair care products from Kama Ayurveda.
1.Kama Ayurveda cold pressed Organic Coconut Oil-
I actually bought this oil for Shiv’s daily massage. And one day I tried this on my hair too. Since then it has been my favourite and I never forget to apply this at least once a week. I first warm it up and apply it on my scalp, I massage my scalp gently for few minutes and then leave it for at least 20 min before washing my hair. I can really see the difference, as it leaves my hair looking super shiny and healthy. This coconut oil is definitely a must have in my bathroom.
I love using natural and organic products on my hair, as the chemical ones tend to damage our hair in the process of cleaning it. The Rose and Jasmine hair cleanser is a mild shampoo and is made up of natural ingredients. Initially when I tried this shampoo, I got a little worried that if my hair were washed properly or not, as there was not much lather formation. But my hair really felt very clean. I was super happy with the results. What I must suggest here is that, it takes time to see the benefits of a new shampoo that you start to use. Give it atleast a month to see how your hair behaves to it before opting for another one. I have been using this shampoo since 4 months now and I have not seen any hairfall. Also, I love how soft and clean my hair looks after every wash.
3.Kama Ayurveda Rose and Jasmine Hair Conditioner–
This is a must have if you are using the above shampoo. It is again a chemical free conditioner and leaves my hair immensely soft and bouncy. Just apply on wet shampooed hair, concentrating on the ends. Keep it for 4-5 minutes and rinse it off with clean water. It prevents hairfall, promotes hair growth and leaves them look stronger, shinier and moisturised with every wash.
So that’s it guys. Post pregnancy hair fall is a temporary phase. After you give birth, your estrogen levels decreases causing the hair(which were in resting phase during pregnancy) to fall out. There is absolutely no need to worry. You will not go bald. Just take good care of your hair, eat proper iron and protein rich food and most importantly do not take any stress.

I am finally sharing the most requested post today- MY POST PARTUM WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY! See, I am a normal woman who gained weight, then lost some, ate healthy, ate poor also and has also been very lazy to work out sometimes. I do not have that perfect body right now and I don’t consider myself to be fitness influencer.
I really feel that every human body is different and it’s more important to appreciate your body and find ways that work best for you. To be honest, my body has always been on the slimmer side(thanks to my genes and good metabolism). And according to me, this factor plays a very essential role.
But ultimately, you guys have continually asked about my weight loss journey. So here I am with some tips that I feel really helped me lose those 20 kgs faster.
Breastfeeding– Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months has helped me reduce weight in a very big way. I know not every woman can breastfeed. No judgement here. But if you can, I suggest every mama to stick to it. I consider it to be a blessing for both Mom and Baby. It burns upto 500 calories per day. Yes, you read that right!
Healthy diet– I was breastfeeding and Diet plays the most important role here. I did not deprive myself and never restricted my portion sizes. I focussed more on filling my tummy with a balanced diet. Oat meal; Dal,Roti,Sabzi; Daliya(Porridge); Salads(after first 40 days); Milk; and lots of water. I used to have Makhana(Fox nuts) whenever I craved for some snacks. That’s it! What I completely avoided in the initial months was White sugar(Instead use Coconut sugar and Jaggery) and Too much Ghee(Just total 2 big Spoons daily)
Walks and Baby jobs– I started walking as soon as I felt comfortable. Please don’t be bed ridden all the time and always listen to your body. I went through a c-section, but made sure to walk in my room and do all my baby’s work everyday, like massage, bathing, changing diapers, making him sleep, on my own. I did not take much help from my Jappa wali Bai. All this definitely helped me bond with my baby more and I felt happy and good about myself. In fact I feel proud of myself today. I believe that keeping yourself engrossed in your newborn will help you stay healthy mentally. And I consider this to be a reason why I did not suffer from Post Partum Depression.
Work Out– I started doing mild yoga 3.5 months post delivery. Just simple stretches at home and brisk walks for only 10-15 minutes was my daily workout. I suggest to begin steadily, especially if you have had a c-section. And also, most importantly, never start anything without consulting your doctor. At around 6 months, I was doing running(sometimes) and more yoga. Today, I do 20 sit-ups, 10 suryanamaskars , 10 squats , 10 lunges and some leg rotations every day at home.
I am still 3 kgs above my pre prgnancy weight. I plan to join a gym after Shiv turns 1 year old. I definitely need some body toning now.
My personal advice for the post partum period would be to focus on feeling POSITIVE and HAPPY again, rather than losing weight. Just eat healthy, feel nourished and exercise. Give yourself confidence and grace. Never forget that you have created a miracle.

When I was a kid, I remember how exciting it was to watch people from the west carrying their little ones on their tummies. Many (especially in India) were not aware about this concept at that time. But, since past few years, baby wearing has become very popular among people all over the world.
Babywearing– is simply the process of keeping your little ones close to you while you do your work handsfree. Even I never heard that word until Shiv was born. I didn’t know that it’s even possible to ‘wear’ your baby. I thought that baby carriers are just for traveling. Also, being a first time mom, I was a little skeptical about it being safe. But when I discovered that it is a completely secure process (if worn properly), I decided to go for it.
Luckily, few weeks back, I recieved a mail from Soul slings, Bangalore asking me to try their Linen Soul Anoona (Who would say no to this?). I was overjoyed and selected my favourite colour and pattern immediately. And in the next few days, my Soul carrier was at home. They also sent me a pair soft souls(shoes) for Little Shiv.
How Baby wearing helped me?
Shiv loves to be held most of the time and doesn’t stay in the stroller for long. It becomes very hectic for me to travel, shop and do the daily chores at home. Sometimes, if I am alone at home or outside, I get so tired and stressed out holding him all the time.
With baby tucked in a carrier, I feel so independent as my hands are free and I can easily do all my day to day activities like cooking(mild cooking), laundry, travel, shopping and also blogging(sometimes).
Not only us(parents), baby wearing also helps our babies feel comfortable and secure. Carriers allow baby to enjoy being in your presence even when you are concentrating on other activities. Recently, we went to Amritsar for a short vacation. I wore Shiv mostly in the front face position and he was so happy looking around new people and places. Motherhood – It is a whole new world.
Here comes, a cute baby boy, with big eyes and the best smile in the world.. We welcomed our little bundle of joy on 23 May 2017, and we named him SHIV.
I am back with another episode of my life, HOW I SPENT THOSE 40 DAYS. I would like to discuss this story into 2 parts. First, on my experiences and the second part on my diet. So, let’s begin and have a happy read!
As soon as we see that cute innocent face, we forget all the pain and wounds that incurred during the delivery. But, it is really important to give our body good rest so that it gets back to normal. In India,elders advise a confinement period of 40 days, when the new mom and baby stays indoor and the mom is not allowed to do any household work… thus giving her time to take adequate rest and bond with the baby.
I was told about this by all my family members as soon as I got pregnant. At first, I thought it to be a useless old practice, which has no meaning. But, after browsing the internet and reading some Ayurvedic books, I realised its importance. A proper post delivery care is very essential to reduce the risk of many health complications that may arise later. And these 40 days are meant for that.
HOW I SPENT MY 40 DAYS!
1. I was given a full time Japa Bai as soon as I entered my house. When she arrived, I was a bit set back. First, she was old and second I never wanted one. You know, I am a very possessive person and I don’t easily trust people. So, I was always very hesitant to hand over my baby to her. It’s not that she was inefficient, it was just my fears. In fact, with time I realised that she was so knowledgable and had so much experience of handling newborns. I learned a lot of things from her, most importantly bathing my baby. Full credit goes to her. The only problem I faced was her interfering nature. I am a Doctor Bhakt, and sometimes didn’t allow her to do certain things( example Loi). But, still I really thank her for being there with me 24 hrs for those 40 days.
2. Despite, having a japa maid, I made sure to massage and bathe my baby on my own. This helps in mother-baby bonding. It gave me a sense of joy. And I also read somewhere, that it helps to reduce the chances of Post partum depression. Yes, I didn’t suffer from that.
3. YouTube Zindabad– Guys my best friend during those days was Youtube. It taught me everything, from changing Little Shiv’s diapers to some great baby massaging moves.
4. Those sleepless nights– During my pregnancy, I used to visualise a cute little baby sleeping peaceful in the cot, very close to my bed, and I watched my angel smiling back at me. But..Uff…the reality was very different.
My husband and I used to feel like zombies. We were seriously suffering from lack of sleep. I remember how we used to spend every minute of the whole night getting him to sleep-nursing, rocking, singing or changing diapers. He used to take a solid 15 minutes nap each time and then woke up wanting to be snuggled again….Mommy I miss you….lol. We three used to sleep at 7 am till 11 am every day. This was the routine. Everyone used to say that that I should sleep when the baby sleeps. But I don’t know why, it was very hard for me. And also, I don’t remember when my baby slept for 16-18 hrs a day. It was hardly just 10 hrs.
This continued for around 1.5 months, and Shiv finally had a sleep routine after that. All thanks to my mom who guided me on how to sleep train a baby.
5. Sleep training your newborn-
Step 1- Pick a bed time and stick to it. It was 10:00 pm in my case.
Step 2- Give your baby a massage.
Step 3-Change his/her clothes and let them be comfortable in their night suits.
Step 4- Switch off the lights and feed the baby.
Step 5-Sing a song. Try to sing the same lullaby every night.
….And the baby goes to sleep.
Shiv used to get up 4-5 times at night just for taking feed.

Today, I am back with another post, which would probably be my last pregnancy blogpost. It was so much fun to share my pregnancy journey with all of you, and what made it look more beautiful was my MATERNITY SHOOT.
When I was 34 weeks pregnant, Avinash and I were very excited to capture some precious photos of that beautiful chapter of our lives. It took me a very long time and lots of hard work to decide different themes. And gathering different kinds of outfits and props was the most difficult task. But, when I saw the final result, I was so happy and realised that all my hard work was worth it. I was completely in love with the pictures and I hope you guys like them too…
I would like to thank the very talented Prachi Sharma from Third Dimension, who was my photographer and she helped me a lot to execute my maternity shoot vision. She made me feel at ease, which is very important for a maternity photoshoot. Also, a very big thank you to Vaunt designer clothing for all those dreamy outfits, which gave me the looks I wanted.
Tips for a Perfect Maternity Photoshoot
I personally feel that you don’t need to work hard on yourself for the shoot, as you and your bump are the stars. It’s the bump that will do everything. But, yes externally you will need the following tips-
Find the right photographer.
Plan your shoot during the 8th month. The bump looks the best during this time.
Plan your outfits and props for every theme.
It is very important for you to be comfortable during the photoshoot. You should be comfortable with your clothes, location and photographer.
Don’t spend much on a makeup artist and be natural. (Photoshop does miracles…haha)
Take short breaks in between.
